Prisoner 84 Delivers Horror Atmosphere, Slow Gameplay

When I first played Resident Evil on the PS back in the 90s, it was the first time a game ever brought me horror-movie creeps.  I never quite got the same paranoid feeling while playing a game again, but the iPhone title Prisoner 84 did come close a couple of times.
There’s nothing especially unique about the gameplay or the story here.  You awaken in solitary confinement at an offshore prison, only to find that everyone inside is either dead or have become some form of zombie-like beings.  So, you spend your time trudging around the prison complex, shooting undead guards and inmates, locating key cards and hunting for clues that allow you to progress towards your objective.   The main goal, by the way, is to find your way outside in one piece, all while the game slowly fills you in about your character’s background as a side plot.
As you can [...]

Rumor: Yosion Apple Peel 520 Will Turn iPod Touch Into An iPhone

Want to make calls on your iPod Touch?  The solution is obvious: plug in a headset, get a WiFi signal and fire up a VoIP app.  A new accessory called Yosion Apple Peel 520 is making the rumor rounds, however, and it will supposedly let you do even more than that, allowing the iPod Touch to communicate over regular voice networks.  Yes, just like an iPhone.
Judging from the photos and video, the accessory will consist of a beefed-up iPod Touch case that contains a dock, a battery and a SIM card slot.  Slip a SIM card onto the slot, dock the handheld onto the case and begin using the iPod Touch like an actual phone.  Do note that this will probably require a jailbroken device.

Apple Peel 520 doesn’t appear to come with an earpiece or a mic, so you’ll probably still need to use the headset to make calls.  Still, [...]

Android, Now With Anti-Piracy Measures

While much complaints have been logged about Apple’s draconian policies for its App Store, you can’t complain about the level of security they’re able to enforce.  Suffice to say, piracy just isn’t that easy to accomplish on such a closed platform.
The complete inverse is true for the Android Market.  Ask any developer about what concerns them most about Google’s mobile OS and you’ll hear the same thing: Android apps are just way too easy to acquire illegally.  Sideloading apps (i.e. installing apps via APK files that come from places other than the Android Market), for instance, is relatively hassle-free.  Plus, you can easily cheat the Market by downloading an app, copying it to an SD card and then requesting a refund – you get both the app and your money back.
For a while now, Google has been talking about enacting ways to foster a more secure system where developers can [...]
